Da questo libro è stato tratto anche un meraviglioso film con Anthony Hopkins, per la regia di Robert Benton. Sarà interessante confrontare la versione originale con quella cinematografica.

PLOT SUMMARY

The year is 1998 in a small New England town. 71-year-old college professor, Coleman Silk, is falsely accused of making racist comments in class and is forced TO RESIGN (dimettersi). Silk’s lover is half his age, an illiterate JANITOR (bidella) at the university whose ex-husband is an ABUSIVE (violento) Vietnam War veteran who BLAMES (biasimare) her for the death of their two children. Meanwhile, Coleman Silk has a secret. Though his wife, children, colleagues and friends believe he’s a white Jew, he is actually a light-skinned African American. As narrator and writer Nathan Zuckerman pieces Silk’s life together, he finds a story of secrets and lies and begins TO UNRAVEL (snodare) them one by one.
