Oggi avrei dovuto incontrare la mia amica Stefania per un aperitivo, purtroppo mi ha chiamato per avvertirmi che non le sarebbe stato possibile venire, a causa di un impegno lavorativo.
Anche se mi dispiaceva, le ho risposto “Non ti preoccupare, terrò buono l’invito per un’altra volta. Vorrà dire che ci vedremo appena possibile”.

Se la mia amica fosse stata americana, mi avrebbe detto che prendeva un “rain check”, un’espressione inglese per usata per declinare un’offerta o una proposta, perché non potete accettare ora, ma vi piacerebbe farlo in un altro momento.

You ask for A RAIN CHECK when it’s not possible to accept an invitation to do something but you hope to do it in the future.
