Lavorare all’estero è il sogno di molti, ma per trovarlo è necessario saper parlare inglese in modo corretto.
Imparare l’inglese
è fondamentale per entrare in contatto con persone di altri paesi, esprimersi correttamente aiuta a farci assumere un’aria seria e credibile, indispensabile nel mondo del lavoro.
Restando in tema, vediamo le differenze tra le due parole inglesi, work e job, per tradurre il termine lavoro.

JOB
versus WORK

JOB and WORK both translate into Italian as LAVORO. But in English they are used differently.

JOB is a countable noun. WORK is a verb and an uncountable noun.

Observe these sentences:

  • RIGHT:          It’s a temporary JOB.
  • WRONG:       It’s a temporary WORK.
  • RIGHT:          He’d like to WORK in a bank.
  • WRONG:       He’d like to JOB in a bank.
  • RIGHT:          She WORKS in a shop.
  • WRONG:       She JOBS in a shop.
  • RIGHT:          We’re lucky to have a JOB at the moment.
  • WRONG:       We’re lucky to have a WORK at the moment.
  • RIGHT:          You have two JOBS to do.
  • WRONG:       You have two WORKS to do.
  • RIGHT:          He has had many JOBS.
  • WRONG:       He has had many WORKS.
  • RIGHT:          If we get a cat, it’ll be another JOB for me.
  • WRONG:       If we get a cat, it’ll be another WORK for me.

In some cases, JOB and WORK can be used interchangeably:

  • RIGHT:          This is difficult WORK.
  • RIGHT:          This is a difficult JOB.
